It’s quite something to see the lanscapers turn our “cow pat” into the start of a garden. The front flower beds are now in with work in progress to the side of the house. The lawn area is looking good although there is one patch that will need a bit more work as it got [...]

Bassets love their routines. It’s hard to imagine LBB (life before Bassets) now after 5 days of getting the hang of what’s required for keeping puppies happy.
We’ve spared you the photos of the personal moments but basically this is what Fortnum and Mason do on a repeated basis thoughout the day.
Chow, personal moment, [...]
Garden taking shape
Posted in Garden blogging, Houseblogging on November 29, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
There’s been a constant hum of machinery at work this week as the landscaping got underway. The beds have been dug and top soil spread after gypsum goes down to help break down the clay. The lawn and herb garden are also being done.
With the resculpting going on we’ve been able to claw back some [...]
Unpacking over

I am so over the unpacking. We finally finished unpacking all the boxes. Also managed to get the guest bedroom unpacked too. A major relief I am sure for my parents arriving in 3 weeks time. Now I just need to sort out everything jammed in the cupboards and give them room to unpack their [...]
Houseblogging: 10 days on
Posted in Houseblogging on November 12, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
Sorry it’s taken so long to get back blogging. I could blame the technology but in this case it’s simply been the operator who’s been slightly preoccupied with getting things ship shape. 10 days on we’re in and almost unpacked. Still lots to do and the builders and subbies are regular visitors but it feels [...]
Where does the dust come from?

I’ve been away from home for three days to return to find a layer of dust everywhere – again! Guess what this domestic executive has been doing this weekend.
Tomorrow I plan to get photo-blogging again but need to get the house ship shape for its blog reveal.
We are living in organised chaos which is not [...]
Houseblogging: periously close
Posted in Houseblogging on October 31, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
It was not quite as chaotic on site today but still a hive of industry. There were reports of 22 people working in the house yesterday so good job I didn’t venture up there – there wouldn’t have been room!
Still, we are periously close now. Money paid to builders, insurance in order, Master [...]
Fine tuning

After a miserable visit at the weekend when we thought that there was no way that the building site would be turned into a habitable house I was pleasantly surprised on my visit today. There was a gang of trades doing their stuff – fine tuning or in the case of the electricians finally getting [...]
Houseblogging: mixed blessings

I noticed something yesterday about builders in NZ I hadn’t noticed before. Instead of it being a man in a white transit van, it’s a man in a white mini van. I was visiting the plumbers (don’t ask) and there were loads of them littering the parking and when I turned up to [...]
houseblogging: barn building
Posted in Houseblogging on October 24, 2007 | 1 Comment »
So, how many people does it take to build a barn? At least 3 plus a man in a van to supervise it turns out. Still, posts in today, concrete in tomorrow and cladding up by end of week. Then concrete and finishing. It’s going to be a close run thing for it to be [...]
